Veterinarian/Partner

Dr. Randy grew up as the sixth of seven children on his family’s pig, cattle, and horse farm in Iowa. Surrounded by animals from an early age, he developed a lifelong passion for their care—a passion that naturally led him to a career in veterinary medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree from a small Christian college in northwest Iowa before pursuing his veterinary studies.

After graduation, Dr. Randy spent two years practicing in Cedar Falls, Iowa, before moving to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In May of 1997, he and his wife, Dr. Sue Van Maanen, founded Great Lakes Veterinary Clinic, where they have dedicated their careers to providing exceptional small animal care.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Randy enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also finds great joy in the daily challenges and rewards of veterinary practice. He and Dr. Sue share a deep passion for the equine industry and, in their spare time, raise and show Paint and Quarter Horses.
